What a postdoc CV does differently
Postdoc CVs are shorter than faculty CVs, typically 3 to 5 pages , and front-load evidence that you can do independent research. The sections that matter most: publications (especially first-author), funding you've won yourself (GRF, fellowships), and any independent projects with clear ownership. The PI you're applying to wants to see that you can drive a research agenda, not just execute on one.
Highlight workshop papers and preprints, postdoc hiring is often faster-cycle than faculty hiring, and reviewers care about the current frontier of your work. Use (best paper), (spotlight), or (oral) tags to signal recognition without burying the substance.
What to leave off the postdoc CV
Skip high school awards. Skip undergraduate coursework. Skip very short volunteer stints. Skip any service older than your PhD unless it's genuinely prestigious. If you have to cut for space, cut from teaching and service, your future PI cares about your science, not whether you ran a club in 2019. Your rec letters from your PhD advisor and committee will speak to your character and growth.
