Why an ISBN lookup beats typing book fields by hand
Books are tedious to cite, you need authors in the right order, publisher, city, and year. ISBNs uniquely identify every published edition, so this tool queries Open Library's public API and returns the book's metadata as a complete @book BibTeX entry. ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 both work (hyphens are optional).
For multi-volume works or rare books, Open Library's metadata may be incomplete. In that case, the BibTeX output gives you a scaffold, fill in any missing fields by hand. For chapters from edited volumes, use our full citation generator with type set to "chapter".
For instructors building course reading lists
Drop a list of ISBNs into Underleaf and get your entire syllabus reading list as a BibTeX bibliography , no more copying titles off Amazon listings. Pairs well with our LaTeX syllabus generator.
