About the ACL Template

ACL (Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics) is the premier conference for natural language processing and computational linguistics research. The ACL style files are shared across all *ACL venues including EMNLP, NAACL, EACL, and AACL.

ACL 2026 was held in San Diego, California (July 2–7, 2026). The ACL 2027 cycle has not been announced; all submissions go through ACL Rolling Review (ARR), with the relevant ARR deadline expected around January 2027 based on recent cycles.

The ACL LaTeX template uses a two-column format and accepts both long papers (8 pages) and short papers (4 pages), with unlimited additional pages for references. A distinctive requirement is the mandatory "Limitations" section, which must be placed after the conclusion and before references. This section discusses the limitations of the work and does not count toward the page limit.

The official style files are maintained on GitHub at acl-org/acl-style-files and updated for each year's conferences. Authors must use these exact style files, since tweaked formatting can be grounds for rejection. The same template works for ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, EACL, and other *ACL venues with minor configuration changes.
